David Abbott Projects Ltd. Menu

At the end of 2017 I was very pleased to be offered the chance to redesign and rebuild HackelBury Fine Art’s website.

HackelBury is home to a raft of incredible artists including William Klein and personal favourite (and client ;)) Ian McKeever. Their website hadn’t changed much since the early 2000s so there was lots of work to do.

In our first meetings, “immersion” was a word that repeatedly came up. Immersion in the artists’ work and career so far. I designed a site that, like a good magazine, you could spend hours browsing through.

HackelBury are super engaged with keeping their site up-to-date so I built something that worked on a series of modules that could be created on the fly with a variety of content types that makes updating a cinch, but keeps the design within certain structures.

Building interest

Another challenge during the build, but nice little feature on the HackelBury site is an enquiry function that uses local storage to allow users to browse the site and build a list of works that interest them. This list can then be edited and sent straight through to the gallery.

The resulting site is elegant and engaging, focusing attention on the artists works, words and histories.
